Mortising 2"x2"x5/8".  Notice the 1/2" slot down the center of the jig with a 5/8" wide section there by the mortise.

Before inserting the work piece, the bit was plunged into the jig's bottom guide panel to create a 5/8" reference slot.

The 5/8" slot is precisely the width of the bit, thus the edge of the slot serves as a guide to lineup perfectly to the layout lines on the work piece.

Unfortunetly, this blemishes the jig.  Later on I modified the front guide rail (left on the picture) of the jig so the guide rail and guide panel can be adjusted independently.  Thus the bit can be squeezed by the two guide panels without cutting into either panel.  And the guide rails can squeeze up against the router base.

In the original design only the guide rail adjusts for the purpose of butting up to the router base, the panel is fixed.  The original design is good for bits up to 1/2".  The modified design is good for bits up to 1 1/2".
