Shooting board with controlled depth-of-cut


Shooting board with depth control. Depth gages look like steps, shown resting behind work piece. The lower step is varied for varied depths

Setup- set Depth gage on plane sill with lower step touching the straight edge (level). Board is butt against upper step, then hold downs are tightened

A stop is attached to the plane with double sided tape. The lower step on the depth gage is some dimension greater than the plane's stop.

Overall result on very squirly currly maple

Close-up. The depth stop assures a straight edge without waves, especially for a novice hand planer. Also useful were control of the amount of material loss is important
